Virtual Landscapes

I duly note that my first and last post was on March 24th, and I am nearly a month without a new post. For those of you who have been checking on this blog for an update, my sincerest apologies.

On to the task at hand: Virtual Landscapes

Virtual landscapes are beautiful masterpieces on their own. What I love the most is this struggle between fantasy and reality. Most landscapes graphics strive to be realistic, but there is always an element of fantasy that reminds us of the escape virtual worlds offer. It reminds me of a dream sequence. Take Sisar's Frammento di Luna for example. A vision of paradise, with a crescent moon resting upon the shore. These works remind me of films like The Lovely Bones and What Dreams May Come--lingering in between real life and imagination:

Other landscapes go for pure realism. One virtual landscape photographer has caught my eye time and time again. Elle Thork does a wonderful job capturing incredible landscapes. More impressive is how she transforms those works. This work reminds me of a canvas painting:

As a last word reminder: if you are a drifter between real life and virtual reality, take a moment today to just look around. If you are outside, take in the natural beauties around you. If you are in-world, enjoy the fruits of human imagination.

Art in 3 Dimensions is Born

This is my first post in Art in 3 Dimensions. What better way to open a blog than to introduce it?

To start, I feel the same way about art as Christian from Moulin Rouge felt about love. 

"Love? Above all things I believe in love! Love is like oxygen. Love is a many-splendored thing, love lifts us up where we belong, all you need is love!"

Creative expression is more than a means of communication, it is an entire way of life. What are we without art? It's all around us. I see it before I even get out of bed. My great-grandmother crafted my blanket with her hands. The nightstand began as a design in the mind of a person. Even my tiny jewelry box, overflowing with loose change and hairties, is art of some sort.

Mother nature has crafted the world around us. Human imagination, with a dash of ambition, has crafted the world as we know it (for better or worse).  

But there is a world beyond reality, inspired by nature, created by human imagination.

Art in 3 Dimensions focuses on art based in the dimensions of the metaverse: Second Life, Sims, IMVU, Frenzoo, Twinity, Utherverse, Open Sims and so on. Being a member of three such worlds, I have met amazing, motivated, and exceptionally talented people.

Even more amazing is the magnificent virtual art that comes out of these worlds. I fell so in love with it that I found myself inspired to write. Granted I am not educated in art, so do not expect too much knowledgeable philosophy from me. Nor am I very artistic myself. I suppse that those who cannot do stop and stare at the work of those who can.

Just look at this piece by Koinup member Link and tell me it doesn't awe you in some way. 

Dame Nature

The textures, the lighting, the contrasting environments--a reflection of Mother Nature. The avatar is from the Sims 2, but the image was edited in Photoshop, the backgrounds and textures were made by Link.  An image like this must have taken a lot of patience, and even more imagination.

What an amazing and beautiful piece of work.

I had been looking for a blogging niche for a while. Finally, out of nowhere, in the most unexpected way, I found it! Much like love hits you when you least expect it. I am inspired and moved by virtual art. So much so that it ignites an urge to write about these works.

And so Art in 3 Dimensions is born.
